“Kim, why did you write the letter?” He asked flatly. Kimberly snatched her wine glass and proceeded to chug the remaining contents. She steadied her breathing for a moment and then got up from her seat to refill her glass. She stood at the counter for a moment, not wanting to face Tommy. Here it comes, she thought to herself.
She turned around and took a delicate sip of her wine. She remained standing. “Because it was the truth.” She said simply.
Tommy lowered his head. He didn’t want to believe it. He wanted to hear it was a lie. Not that it would have made things better or easier, but he wanted to believe that Kim had felt young and capricious about breaking up with him, not realistic and concrete.Kimberly made another face. She really didn’t want to hear about bed pans. She turned to look at her mother, hoping her pleading look would send her mother the message. Apparently, mothers cannot read coded messages sent by their daughters. “Mom?...” tried Kimberly, trailing off.
“Hmm? Oh I see. You want me to carry you. Well, the restraints need to be removed first… Dr. Matthews?” "Can we find what we're looking for and go?" Jareth asked, ducking a large cobweb that stretched across the upper part of the hall. "I have better things to do with my afternoon than spend it dungeon-diving."
"Oh?" Deacon asked, turning his chrome helmet back to look at the Gold Ranger. "Like what? Go home and dungeon-dive in a video game?"
"Probably. Or just spend another evening throwing peanut butter at the cieling fan. But it still beats this."
Myk gritted his teeth beneath his helmet. Jareth's whining was begging to grow old, and the voices of his two fellow rangers echoed off the ancient stone walls, undoubtedly alerting anything down here to their presence. He'd tell them to shut up, but that never worked. At least Jareth had stopped singing. For now.
“All right, we’ll remove them now.” Dr. Matthews instructed the nurse to follow his lead. The two of them removed the restraints, which were then stored underneath the bed. Kimberly felt more human after they were gone. The nurse then removed the bed pan as well. Kimberly’s mother stood and lifted her daughter, who wasn’t too heavy. Kimberly felt a small wind go up her hospital gown, alerting her that underneath she wore nothing. A slight blush crossed her face as she realized this. It didn’t seem to faze her mother though, but then again, mothers have seen everything. Her mother sat her gently on the toilet, helping Kimberly to raise her gown. Then, she stepped outside of the bathroom and closed the door to give Kimberly her own privacy.
“But why?” Tommy asked again. He just couldn’t understand it. They had been happy and in love. Or so he thought. There hadn’t been any indication up until that letter that their seemingly perfect relationship was doomed. He was counting the days until he could hang up his morpher, sweep her up from Florida and carry her back to Angel Grove and marry her. But that fantasy never happened. After she broke it off, he questioned it, but he never questioned her. He just took it, and never deigned for an explanation. Until now.
