School began on a Wednesday, which meant no homework the first week of school. This was great news for the teachers. It gave them a chance to readjust from their summer freedom, and time to finish up any last minute lesson plans before the semester kicked in.
The first day was also a treat for the students, as classes didn’t begin until 9am today. The faculty had their annual “Meet and Greet” in the auditorium. This was a time to introduce new faces, share any important news or educational developments they had experienced over the summer, and a time to plan for all the major events that would take place over the course of the school year.
Dr. Mercer was sitting in a chair on the stage, facing the large group of teachers and interns. Anton became the superintendent at the end of the last school year, right after Mesagog had been destroyed and he had been freed of the monster’s spell. Elise Randall, now Elise Randall-Mercer, had also been freed from the spell. After Anton became the superintendent, he had gladly given Elise her former position as Principal, back to her.
Principal Randall sat beside Anton, waiting to begin the meeting. Once the general chatter had died down and everyone was settled in their seats, Superintendent Mercer stood up and approached the podium.Kimberly didn’t turn around as she heard someone else enter the room. She wasn’t expecting anyone, and it was probably another patient wanting to relax. “Hey, I’ve never seen you here before,” called a young voice. "Yeah," Mara agreed. "I mean, how are we supposed to do that cool Turn-Your-Back-On-The-Vilian-As-It-Blows-Up thing, if it doesn't blow up?"
"I thought we did that because it'd be damaging to the eyes to look directly at the explosions?" Jared asked.
"Oh, is THAT why?" Mara asked. "And here I thought we were just being dramatic."
"Well, anyway, it looks like we're done here," Tommy said.
"We're not done yet, Rangers!" came the demented, twisted voice of Psycho Red. It came, not from the pile of melted armor in front of them, but from behind. As one, the Rangers turned to see the Psycho Rangers, alive and well, standing in formation before them.
"Wha...but you were...we just....How'd you do that?" Jared asked, glancing from the slag to the Psychos and back again.
Kimberly turned around and saw a young boy with black hair sitting in a wheelchair. “Oh… hello,” she replied.
“You must be the girl next door to me. That’s what my mommy told me. She said you were very upset.” The boy smiled. “It’s okay to be upset.”
Kimberly smiled brightly at the boy. It was the first true smile she’d given anyone since the accident. “Thanks.”
“What’s your name? My name’s Jayden and I’m seven years old today!”
“Well happy birthday Jayden. My name’s Kimberly and I’m seventeen years old.”
“Wow, you don’t look seventeen. You’re OLD!” he laughed at himself.
