Ms. Randall stared at him for a moment. What has gotten into him today? She wondered. “Well, if that’s all settled, let me conclude our meeting with a round of applause for our new teachers and have a wonderful semester!” She finished, as the whole group started clapping. All the teachers started filing out of their seats, chatting and discussing lesson plans. Tommy and Kimberly just stood there in the aisle. Still holding each other’s hand, oblivious to the world around them.

It took Kim a moment to realize that he still had her gripped in a handshake before she pulled away. Tommy was taken out of his daze and blushed, turning away from Kim.Kimberly nodded. Mrs. Mullins was pouring her son’s life story to her. Kimberly knew there were many changes to come, but she didn’t want them to happen to her. She wanted things to be the way they were before the accident. She didn’t want to have her life flipped upside down, thrown around in a whirlwind. She wanted to still be able to compete in Pan Globals and bring home a medal, to prove to herself that she was indeed Olympic material. Now that her dreams had been shattered, her life was at a standstill. The one profession she’d picked out from a young age was no longer available to her as an option.        From his position atop the wind-swept rock that sat in the middle of the wind-swept alien desert, the Bronze Ranger flipped open his Turbo Navigator.

         "Actually, yes. It's almost here. It should arrive in about....13 seconds."

         "Ah, good. Just enough time to throw one more rock." Jareth tossed a smooth, flat rock, sending it sailing across the desert sands. Oddly enough, the rock actually skipped on the sand.

         No sooner had the rock stopped moving than a massive blue disc shot down from the sky, coming to a landing right in front of them. The front side was elongated, and attached to the bottom were to large, oblong structures, like pontoons.

“I know you’re going to have a long road ahead of you, Kimberly. Remember there are many reasons why your accident happened, even if you don’t know about them yet. Perhaps this will allow you to explore a new path that you’d never thought of, but will come to enjoy,” continued Mrs. Mullins.

“Thank you,” whispered Kimberly. She was trying to hide the fact that she was so close to tears.

“So . . . ”She lingered on the pause for a second. “What do you want to show me?” She asked. Tommy laughed inwardly. Oh! The things he wanted to show Kimberly. There it was again, the 12-year-old boy.

He stopped himself before he received a dirty look and furrowed his brow. It was finally time to take things seriously. He still had a job to do, however ridiculous the current circumstances were.
